NAGRA ANTI-PIRACY SERVICES IBCAP CASE STUDY

WHAT'S INSIDE?

Streaming of international television content, both through set-top boxes and websites, has become more and more prevalent and is materially affecting the business of international broadcasters as well as distributors of international content who have purchased exclusive rights to it in the U.S. Instead of purchasing this content from legitimate providers like DISH Network, pirate consumers are buying low-cost Android set-top boxes, many of which are “fully loaded” and configured and ready to plug in and use, enabling the streaming of literally thousands of channels. This is commonly referred to as IPTV Piracy.

To combat this piracy, an alliance of leading international broadcasters and pay-TV operators committed to preventing unauthorized streaming and distribution of international television content was formed: the International Broadcaster Coalition Against Piracy, Inc. (IBCAP) This case study outlines the various ways in which NAGRA supports IBCAP and its anti-piracy activities.
